Popis v původním jazyce:Areas of traditional industry represent rather sensitive entities from economic, sociocultural, environmental and often also historical perspective. City of Ostrava, which is the capital of Moravian-Silesian region in the Czech Republic can be ranked just among old industrial cities. Ostrava experienced its essential growth in the era of industrialisation. Hence it came to be known as centre of heavy industry, i.e. mining and metallurgy. Decline of this city after the fall of the Iron Curtain substantially differed from its western predecessors. The objective of this article is to analyse and interpret selected aspects of Ostrava’s transformation between 1995 and 2010. Our attention will concentrate upon depopulation and deindustrialization processes as they can be grasped as relatively synthetic manifestations of transformation in urban areas with heavy industry.
